Check Elxis filesystem with Updiag
Many users face problems with Elxis CMS because some files are missing from their installation or they are broken. Updiag tool is an Update and Diagnostic tool that, beside others, can check your file system and notify you if a file is missing or is wrong (outdated or broken). Updiag uses hash files to perform this task. Hash files source is elxis.org itself. No one else is allowed to generate hash files for Elxis CMS! We have updated our hash database and published hash files for Elxis 2008.0.
Updiag usage
- Login to Elxis administration (any version)
- Go to tools -> Updiag
- From the Updiag menu select maintenance -> Download Hash files. You will be notified about the available hash files on elxis.org and Updiag will prompt you to download them. If you already have them, a green tick will be displayed instead. Notice that folder /administrator/tools/updiag/data/hashes must be writable (permissions 777 or enablement of FTP access) in order Elxis to be able to download hash files from elxis.org to that folder.
- Once you have the hash file that matches your elxis version, select maintenance -> check filesystem
- Select the "Normal" hash file and click Execute
- Updiag will check the installed Elxis file system against the selected hash file. Notice that this procedure may take a while. If you face a server timeout error dont worry. Updiag checks about 3500 files and consumes system resources more than a usual script. So if you are on an old server with not too much RAM it might display you this error. Just re-try later in a time when the server wont have too much traffic. Updiag usage is safe, you have nothing to worry about.
When ever you have a problem with Elxis CMS, first check Elxis filesystem integrity with Updiag to ensure that your installation is authentic and you dont have missing or broken files. Updiag has included multi-lingual help, read it if you don't understand something!
