eBlog FAQS
This is a list of the most Frequently Asked Questions for the Elxis eBlog component. Notice that by the time of writing this post Elxis 2008.1 (and therefor eBlog) has not yet being released.
Component eBlog (Elxis Blog) is a full-featured blog system integrated into Elxis CMS (version 2008.1 or greater). eBlog allows you to create unlimited number of blogs having almost the same functionality as Wordpress or Blogspot.
No, you can not. As eBlog is integrated into Elxis 2008.1+ you have to upgrade your Elxis installation to the latest version to use eBlog. Upgrading Elxis from version 2008.0 to version 2008.1 is easy using the official Elxis Updater.
Yes, you can create unlimited number of blogs for the same or different users.
You can configure blogs from back-end, create more blogs and assign users to them but you can not post articles from back-end. To post an article you have to login at front-end and navigate to your eBlog. Elxis will automatically display a link to the blog's control panel to the blog owner. At control panel there are links for editing and posting new articles as well as links for modifying blog settings.
Yes, eBlog supports user comments on blog's posts. You can set who is allowed to post comments on your blog (everybody, only registered users or none) independently from other blogs on the same site. Blog owners and site super administrators can see the IP and the e-mail addresses of the users that posted each comment and can also remove a comment.
You can upload additional CSS files at folder components/eBlog/css/ and use these CSS files for your blog. Moreover you can set your own eBlog header by inserting into the "slogan" parameter in blog configuration any HTML source code you like. You can also have an RTL (Right-To-Left) version of your CSS for those using RTL languages. RTL CSS files should be named as the LTR ones with the suffix "-rtl" (LTR version: mycss.css , RTL version: mycss-rtl.css). eBlog will automatically load the RTL version of your CSS whenever someone switches language to an RTL one.
Tags (or Labels) are characteristic words or short phrases that are being used as keywords for each post. If you set to display tags under posts then eBlog will show these Tags under each post and create links to search for other posts having the same Tag. Don't use too many or too few Tags per post. A number from 5 to 10 is sufficient.
Yes, eBlog automatically generates an archive for each month posts. You can set to display links to archive in the fotter of your blog.
Component eBlog supports insertion of images using the new Elxis image manager for front-end and youTube or Yahoo videos.
Yes, you can enable this in blog's configuration. If enabled then a special folder will be created inside images/userfiles/ directory to store user uploaded images. Each user can access only his own media files. More over you can limit the total size of files a user can upload (by default 2MB).
To create a menu item that links directly to a user blog go to your desired menu (for example main menu) in Elxis administration and click "New". Select "eBlog blog" as the menu item type and click "Next". On the next page you are able to write a title for your new menu item and select the blog to which the menu item will link to.
