Upgrade Elxis 2006.4 to 2008.0

There are huge differences between the 2006.x and 2008.x Elxis generations and therefor there is not an officially way to upgrade an Elxis 2006.4 installation to the 2008.0 version. As Elxis Team we believe that an automatic upgrade between these two Elxis versions can not be without problems and we do not want to publish something that might cause even a small problem to your site. Elxis CMS is well known for the quality of its source code and we always publish only stable and secure versions. Fortunately for those want to risk on this there is an unofficially way to upgrade an Elxis 2006.4 website to the 2008.0 version. The upgrade method has been already tested by many users with good results.

Before you begin

1. We remind you that this procedure is not officially supported and we take no responsibility for any damages may occur to your site because of this guide or the upgrade scripts used.

2. This guide is for upgrading Elxis 2006.4 to 2008.0 and to no other versions. If you have Elxis 2006.3 please first upgrade to 2006.4 using the Updiag tool before upgrading to 2008.

3. Take a full backup of your site files and database. In case of something goes wrong you will be able to restore your old site.

4. Download Elxis 2008.0 from the Elxis Downloads Center.

5. Make sure you have access to a database management tool such as phpMyAdmin or pgMyAdmin.

6. Take your site offline.

Upgrade to 2008.0

1. Go to your database management tool (usually phpMyAdmin) and import the Farhad Sakhaei's sql script . You will find the SQL script as well as detailed usage instructions at Elxis forums. Follow the instructions posted at Elxis forums, don't forget that you also need to overwrite old 2006.4 files with the Elxis 2008.0 ones.

2. Install and run the nikos13 SEO titles suggestion tool for automatic conversion of the imported SEO titles by Farhad's sql file to the automatic suggested ones by Elxis. To install any Elxis tool just upload it inside the administrator/tools/ folder. You will find detailed usage instructions at the Elxis forums.

3. You will surely have to do some small fixes to SEO titles, to your template's CSS etc. Check all Elxis components, your content, the modules parameters and do changes where needed in Elxis administration. Leave your site in the offline status until you are sure everything works fine.
