Elxis 2008 roadmap

Elxis Team, in contrast to other open source projects, does not publish a detailed road map for the next versions. The reason is simple. Elxis has become a victim of copyright violations several times in the past. We have no other weapon to fight against these habits except of not publishing our future plans and ideas. We do not even publish beta versions. Elxis community members are our beta testers. Besides this, we always announce a general road map about elxis future versions and our plans.

Elxis 2008.0 was the first of the 2008.x generation. We have a vision for Elxis 2008 that, due to time pressure, has not been completed in the 2008.0 release. There are certain areas that will be totally changed in the next 2008.x releases. First of all, elxis needs a real blog system. We do not intend to create a WordPress inside Elxis but to give users the ability to have nice looking and functional blogs inside Elxis CMS. To achieve this we have to separate blog from content. Elxis site's members with access to add content, will have their own virtual blog in one Elxis installation. Imagine these blogs SEO Pro URLs following this format: /blog/username/

As in the blog case above, the same route will be followed for the Elxis archive. We need a real archive system that separates archived content based on the published month and year. This archive system will look like a content calendar.

It is in our plans to implement in Elxis default distribution the ability for users and visitors to be able to post comments on articles. This feature will also be used in the new blog system. So, you will have content items that can be commented, and your personal blog that other users can post comments to.

We also plan some other updates but it is not certain if we will finally implement them. Here is a short list of them: new search system, compatibility with FireBird and Oracle databases, extension of the Users Preferable Language system, updates to various classes used in Elxis core, move to PHP5, update ADOdb database library, etc.

If you like our ideas or you wish to share your own with us, join Elxis! We are open to all people who want to help make our vision a reality. Elxis CMS is yours, we create it for you!
