What is elxis

Tuesday, 14 July 2009

Elxis CMS is an open source content management system (CMS) released under the GNU/GPL license. You can use Elxis to build simple to complex web sites without the need of having programming skills. Elxis CMS is provided for free and without any guarantee. Our headquarters are located in Athens, Greece. Elxis CMS is being developed by the Elxis Team a team of friends passioned to open source software.

History of Elxis

Elxis born on December 2005. The scope of the project was to develop a simple but powerful content management system that would respect idividual user needs and, most important, his native language. Elxis was based on a modified, by Ioannis Sannos, version of Mambo CMS v4.5.2.3 that had back-end language support. After 6 months of hard work, on June 2006, the first version of Elxis, 2006.0 Zeus, was ready and the first Elxis sites appeared in the world wide web. Elxis 2006.0, 2006.1 and 2006.2 were private releases as there was a dispute between the co-founders of the project whether Elxis should be a public open CMS or a private one. This changed on October 2006 with version 2006.3. Elxis 2006.3 was the first Elxis public release. Version 2006.4 was the last release of the 2006.x generation, a version that used widely. By the time Elxis 2008.0 was released Elxis get into a new phase. More powerful and, most important, more open than ever, Elxis spread its wings to the world. Since its beggining, Elxis has been istalled and used in about 100,000 web sites all arround the world. Elxis Team continiously update Elxis core, add new features, and improve system performance and usability.

In Elxis we continiously try new technologies and spent alot of time on research. The CMS source code contain many unique pattents we developed by ourselves. Elxis Team is a leading programming group. Bellow there is a short list of features we have already tried in our laboratories or we plan to do in the near future. Some of them may pass into the main release.

  • Automatic live update
  • Artificial intelligence (AI). Elxis learns how people interact with the web site and proposes them content they are interested in or tasks they usally perform when they visit the web site.
  • Change of the database abstraction library to a faster one (PDO will be examined as a solution).
  • Internal messaging system for Elxis front-end.
  • Turn into PHP 6.0 when this version become available (because of the native utf-8 support).
  • Template builder. Create templates with simple clicks from within Elxis administrtion.
  • Integrated advanced web statistics tool.
