Check Elxis file system
Check Elxis file system

A friend from the old days came back to Elxis CMS. File system integrity check used in Elxis 2006, 2008 and 2009 series made available in Elxis 4.5 since revision 1886 (August 31, 2016). This tool makes sure your Elxis files are authentic and up-to-date.

How it works

To begin the check select from Elxis 4.5 rev1886+ administration menu Extensions > Check file-system. The tool will connect to Elxis network to download a special file containing all files hashes of the authentic Elxis release you have installed. Then it will prompt you to begin the check. Click the button once and wait. As the files that are about to be checked are almost 3000 you have to be a little patient. Depending on the speed of your server the check will take from 2 to 20 seconds. Ducring check the tool generates the hashes of the local Elxis filesystem and compares them with the original ones from Elxis network.

After the check is complete the tool will list you the files that are missing, or have been modified, or needs to be updated. Download from elxis.org the full version you have installed (not necessarily the latest) and update the files the tool listed you with the ones from elxis.org official release. Run the tool again to make sure your file-system is OK.

Use cases

The files integrity check tool of Elxis CMS is extremely useful under the following cases.

  • You just updated your site and you need to make sure you have updated all files.
  • Your site has been compromised and you need to find out the modified files.
  • You have modified some files in the past but you dont remember which ones.
  • You need to check if there is an updated release (higher revision number) of the Elxis version you have installed.

Note: The check is performed on the Elxis files as released by elxis.org, not on files uploaded by you or on files that belong to installed third party extensions.
